After a challenging development cycle that lasted two-and-a-half years, the game was released in Spain during December 1997. At the request of Dinamic, the team worked with Spanish new wave group La Unión to create a theme song for Hollywood Monsters. Pendulo's goal was to create a traditional adventure game with nonlinear gameplay and difficult puzzles. While Igor had involved six people, Hollywood Monsters required roughly 40 contributors, most of them outside contractors.

The company sought to heavily improve its design practices, graphics production and engine technology over those of its first game, Igor: Objective Uikokahonia (1994).

Every time that happened (after I recovered from freaking out about that), I took control of the spider and sent his ass into the heart of red ant territory to be torn apart.Development of Hollywood Monsters began at Pendulo in mid-1994. The one minus I can think of is when that goddamned spider appeared on the playing field, and I swear that fucker always made a beeline to my player ant and chew it up with a disturbingly detailed close-up of that bastard's four eyes and leg-mouth thingies. There was a 'campaign' mode of sorts where you raise a colony, send out queens to colonize new areas and eventually take over someone's yard and house while keeping the red ants from doing the same. Did you know ants can puke up their food to feed each other? That saved my player ant more than a few times. SimAnt was an edutainment title by Maxis and had a nifty section in the manual that detailed how ants and their colonies worked. And of course, the power plant music that turns a programmer workstation into a strip club. And that music! I used to spend hours being hypnotized by the menu music. Even though I dislike fighting games, I spent so many hours playing it and against my cousin whenever he came over. One Must Fall 2097 was a fighting game with robots that had a pretty cool career mode even in the shareware version.
